Distortion = Overdrive??

Yey, I ot my new Ibanez GRX70!!

Question 1: Is distortion the same thing as overdrive??
Question 2: What kind of effects does linkin park use in "one step closer", just heavy overdrive?

Answers to these question would be a great help to me.

Well, to a point distortion = overdrive. Overdrive is a type of distortion. Kinda like all bugs are insects but not all insects are bugs. Overdrive is the sound you get from a non master volume guitar amp like you would find back when guitar amps were a new thing up until the early 70s. Now days distortion is much greater than the old overdrive. Overdrive is a low gain distortion.
