Wow this forum has a lot of options . . .

Anyways I've been playing acoustic for a while and want to check out an electric one.

I didn't even know about PRS until coming here . . . and PRS and Gibson Les' are a little high priced.

What's a choice of getting a decent amp and guitar on a budget of $1000? (Don't want those beginning guitars like that squier strat pack))

I originally was going to go with a Fender standard strat and a fender blues tube amp . . . that comes to around $900 or a Fender telecaster (Hehe, I'm a crossroads movie fan. . .)

And I'm probably going to lean towards blues (though not limited to) for playing style.

Any other suggestions?

Well a fender guitar is good and the fender amp would be good too, if blues is your thing. I would also say a line 6 amp would be good too, they have lots of amp models that sound very good. It's a versital amp for a great price!

Hmm well to clarify, I know about acoustic guitars and what are great guitars.

I don't know anything about electric, and the only one other person I know that owns electric is a bass player and she has a PRS.

Anyone know of good brands of amps or guitars that fall within a $1000 price range? I was looking into fender, yet places on the 'net say I have to get fender guitars shielded or they make excessive noise.

Although shielding a Fender is good it's not essential if it was Fender would do this in the factory

Anyway the best advice is to go to a music store and try what you see in your price range if you like it it feels good and plays well go with it

Harmony central have some good reviews on all makes of guitar check out and see wat users say

Recently I ran into two new manufacturers, btw HarmonyCentral really has great reviews . . .

G&L guitars and Route 101 guitars. . .

So I'm thinking Peavy amp and G&L guitar. . . anyone play a G&L or a Route 101?

I have a Santana SE PRS which I am EXTREMELY happy with. It is arguably the best guitar in its price range, esp. if you're interested in playing blues. I picked it up @ Sam Ash for $600, that's including tax and everything. I don't claim to be an expert in amps, so I can't offer much help there, but I've played many many different guitars for a wide range of music, and I'm very happy with my PRS. The Santana SE is basically a standard PRS that's not as pretty. It won't come w/ the sunburst wood patterns, but the dual humbuckers are similar to the PRS Dragons that come standard on the $3,000-$4000 ones. The sound is great. All mahogany body, rosewood neck. No problems w/ it getting out of tune quickly, does not fret out. A well made guitar all around. And for the price it's hard to find a similar guitar w/ out paying a few hundred extra for it. That's my two cents.

Just for your information... I worship PRS guitars.

Here is my view on PRS guitars... They are very expensive and are not the highest quality instrument I've ever played. Some models of PRS that are over 2 grand don't have the option of adjusting the intonation. That is an extrememly important adjustment with a guitar and this over-priced instrument doesn't have it. If you are into hand made, high quality guitars, check out The Heritage. They are what Gibson used to be. Their plant in Kalamazoo is still running by old employees that bought the plant off gibson when they moved to nashville. They are extremely high quality, surpassing that of PRS and greatly surpassing the quality of Gibson today. They are also sold at Gibson prices. The Heritage are devoted to quality, and that's what they build.

never heard of route 101......however...
i have noticed that the guitarist for one of the best local bands in my area plays a G&L....hes pretty good....and prolly in his 40's so i expect he has some extensive experience....
not that that really means anything....but nobody else mentioned G&L so i thought id throw in my 2 cents...hehe...

other than that...i know almost zero about electrics too...and am looking for my first one for christmas...think i am going to get a washburn....you could give those a peek too.....theyd fit in your budget...

good luck!
