i bought a metronome becuase so many people have said i should and it helps a lot with getting everything perfectly timed. i dont have a problem with reading music and tapping my foot. i have been trying to use it with having licks in time, but i cant get use to following a beep. i guess i should keep trying, any ideas?

man i dont like using metronomes, i keep my guitar so loud i cant hear the damn thing. but anywho, i think it does take some getting used to, i used one when i played the piano and its a pain in the arse to get used to it but once u do it really does help u get better, u keep better time, and since you're not the one keepin the neat, u gotta listen to it, so u get a better ear too (i think)
anyways man, just keep at it, thats really all i could tell you

dude take it from me, it is a real pain when you're starting. especially if youve been playing for a while. i started usin a metronome when i first started playin the piano so i didnt really have a problem. but ive been playing guitar for like a year and a half i guess (not really too long but u get the idea), i just tried usin my old metronome a couple weeks ago and i couldnt play a damn thing, it just blew my mind, i couldnt do something as simple as playing with a metronome.
but i guess i too should really start usin a metronome when i play my own stuff. if im practicin covers ill usually play wit the cd, especially if im in the process of learning it, but if im playin my own stuff i guess it would help me more. so ill probably try it tomorrow and see how it goes.

aaaahhh, metronome usage....
...I use to look at it, because mine blinks with every beep. But then I stop looking on the sheet for the notes I have to play and - bang - out again... - I always hide my metronome now, so I can just hear it. The other thing that makes me hate the damn thing is that you can't make a mistake, stop a split second and then start right in the same rhythm again, you always have to wait for the next beep - and most of the times I'm quicker...
...anyway, I still think it's usefull, not just to stay in tune, but to have a »playing mate« at your side that's just doing »his« own thing. You have to relate as you would on other players...

hehe, don't get a mechanical one, those are never fully relieable, electric or digital ones are much better - they only slow down, when the batterie is empty... (at least my and a friends experiences)...
