I'm having a small string removal problem...

Here's what happened:
One of my strings broke down by the bridge. It's never broken down there before but I never really thought about it and didn't think it was too big of a deal since I was planning on changing strings soon anyway. So I go get a new pack of strings and then start removing the old ones. I get to the one that broke and I discover that it's impossible to get it out. There's like an inch of string left there and there's no way to push it out. I have no idea how to get it out?? Can anyone help me?? Has this happened to anyone before??

Thanks!

If you have a Strat style guitar....take a paper clip, unwind in, and poke the string through from the top. You may also need to have some needle nose pliers handy. You may just see the end of the ball coming through the other side. So then you can grab it with the needle nose pliers and pull it through.

Very common problem on that style of guitar.
