I figured out that instead of having to alter
notes of the major scale to get another scale
simply remember these formulas.

major=34
minor=232
melodic minor=25
lydian=43
but for odd scales and pentatonics it gets kinda confusing
major pentatonic=3s11sa
Theres more but let me elaborate 1st.

the numbers stand for consecutive even or odd numbers
depending on which kind of note you start on.
example major34
3oddsand 4 evens or 3evens 4 odds
a major=579 10 024.......starting on odd
f#major=24679 11 1.......starting on even
major pentatonic is 3(odd or evens)s1 =skip next evenorodd
1sa= 1 more consective even or odd same as last note
a major pent is 57902
cool!!!!!

Ummm i'll think ill stick to the way i know. But its cool to see how others interperet music in their own ways. :)

It works for me,It has too because I invented it.
Im always searching for new ways to learn something.I just hated the thought of trying to rely on a chord book or scale book before i could play something.My memory is terrible and at least this way if i forget how to form.....ie 4th position melodic minor
well i know enough by remembering the formulas vs(actual pattern) how to form it from memory and maybe a scratch paper.
I do realize that this is only a tool and i will need to retain what ive figured out on paper or it will be useless as far as writing creative improvised on the spot stuff.
Your sound/tone and writing ability will far out weigh this anyways.
But its always a helpful tool to add spice to your notes and more importantly help you stay in tune with the song.
