Broken Rhythm?

I'm learning this new song, "Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side" and it has, what my guitar teacher calls 'Broken Rhythms', well, I think that's what he said :p . Anyway, I'm finding it quite difficult, is this song too hard for a beginners such as me? Oh and I have a hell of a time swapping chords, at least 1 sec break between each chord change. How much time, on average, does it take to acquire speed when changing chords??

1sec? That will decrease as you keep playing.
How much time it takes to swap chords? Depends on the chords. I dunno how much time it takes, kinda hard to say. But with me it's less than 1 sec.
