my guitar teacher was talking with me about how scientists have figured out that you listen to music through your right brain. than if you have music knowledge your always decoding the music in your left brain and thinking of how hes playing it and everything. but if you dont have music experience it never goes to your left brain and you never realize how brilliant most stuff is, but if one of uswwas listening to some hendrix solo most of us would be in awe, i know i always am. i thought that was so true, and a cool thing to know why it happens.

Yeah, I can't listen to music now without thinking about how it's played (even on instruments I don't know how to play)

It's been like this so long, I can barely remember what listening to music sounded like before I played the guitar.

I have difficulty Just relaxing and listening to music as i'm so busy trying to figure out how it's being played and what techniques are being used. It gets quite annoying really!

It's also depressing as i usually think 'i'll never be able to do that'

No wonder I get a headache when I try those speed riffs!
Maybe I could flip my guitar upside down and then the Hendrix side of my brain will kick into gear!

OH MAN! IT WORKED! Thanks for the idea!

yeah, I don't know if it's a good thing though, I can't listent to any music, even to relax, without thinking how it should be played.

one morning I even went into a Contract Law tutorial still a wee bit drunk with a Jeff Beck song in my head and couldn't help but air guitar under the table for an hour.

I was only doing it because the class was boring and I had to take my mind off my churning stomach.

Not to go against what your teacher said, but it seems more sensible if we were to use both sides of the brain to listen. Music is artistic (right side) but has a lot to do with math, which is very logical, (left side). It just makes more sense to use both sides of our brain.

Josh, his teacher said we use both sides and non musicians only use the right.

i know for a fact that i cannot listen to music without at least moving my fingers mimicking the guitars, its just an impulse now.

yeah, I can't watch people eating without opening and closing my mouth and going "yum yum yum". and I can't watch couples kissing without thrusting my pelvis randomly into thin air. After a while it gets to you y'see.

I was at this local gig before...

And while everyone was busy moshing and headbanging...

There I was, looking at the guitarist shredding away.

This kinda goes along the topic...
I can't stand to watch people "act" like they play the guitar (or bass). I just kind of look at them in awe and think, "Did I used to look like that?"

It's always funny to watch the idiots at school try to play air guitar alog to a song, when they have never held a guitar in their life! :D

If you're going to be playing air guitar, at least do it properly. :D
