Which is better? Which one has the best sound? Which is louder?
How big a gig can these take?
I realise the Spider's got amp modeling but I'm not really botherd about it.

why would you be bothered by amp modeling? It's a great thing, especially line 6's. I am not sure which will get louder... but both will be great little amps. The spider will be so much more versital and the AVT50. So on that note, I'd take the spider over the avt50. I don't know if the spider comes with a control pedal or not... but I'd say buy the FB4, then it makes the spider essentially a 4 channel amp. The big floor board will make it even more versital live, just with an extra 250 bucks tacked on.

I just checked the stats on the Spider 112. It's only 50 watts. I realise the Marshall's only 50 watts but it isn't a solid state amp like the Spider. At the moment I'm leaning way towards the Marshall coz of it's sound and volume. I was playing on an original Valvestate today (8080) and I have to admit, I was impressed. There was some other guy where I was with a Spider and that wasn't too loud... dunno how loud he set it though.

FYI: the AVT is 50 solid state watts too. It's a hyrbid amp, but the tube is in the PREamp section... not the poweramp. So, spec wise both amps will be the same volume. I love both amps' tone. They are great amps. The spider will be the better buy though!

why don't you buy the h&k edition tube? it doesn't cost much more but it's an tube amp, not a hybrid. it sounds much better, and it's as loud as the marshall, although it has only 20 Watts.
