View Full Version : Backing Tracks
I've been recording a lot of improvising lately...
I've found a few backing tracks on the internet that are great,
but the more I attempt to expand...the less I can find
anybody know of any sites that offer good tracks?
Also, I've been playing for approximately eight months on guitar...
and a previous 4-5 on bass (8 + 4 = 12 = one year)
tell me what you think of some of this stuff
it's all I can fit w/ the 20MB that tripod gives me

P.S. = you might not want to listen to the Voodoo Chile interpretation
:(
THANK YOU:(

wow, that's really good, I like C-5 especially :)
I've been playing for 3 months and am not as good as you obviously :) but I was wondering, how do you improvise? Do you use particular scales or do you think it up in your head and transcribe it manually?
Yo...
thanks dude, I'm glad to hear that somebody thinks it doesn't suck...:)
as for the improvising, unfortunately I'm lacking the knowledge/ experience/ genius to think it up in my head and write it out
The majority of the time I'm just improvising with a set of notes, (that must be some scale)...I normally use all the minor pent notes, I typically add that note that makes it a "blues" scale, I also add in notes that are minor (In A I'll add B and F)(?), I'll add in what I think are "Santana" notes from time to time (in A it would be maybe like a F#), if I'm really bored I'll just add in random notes that are fast enough to not ruin the vibe haha, and "Rejjay" was a major scale I think.
Anyways, if you've been plugging away for three months, before you know it...you'll realize those recordings eat %$#@ :D

Nah I like your technique, very concise and your pulloffs and bends are real good. I like your tone too, what guitar is it?
As for the scales, I had no idea what you were talking about apart from the pentatonic scales, so i probably should learn where each note is on the fretboard huh? Damn this is gonna be a hard one
Also you should search kazaa for instrumentals, particularly hiphop ones if you can, maybe rakim or something :)
lol...
well I guess I'll just have to accept that someone likes it...
my "gear",
my dad's 97'(?) American Strat (Lonestar)...
it's like a fat strat, it's got a Pearly Gates H-bucker at the bridge
and two "Texas" s-coils at middle and neck (black w/ maple neck)
I actually used to play on a bass amp, w/ no distortion, and my fingers
about two months ago I started learning how to use the pick,
and I also got a little practice amp for my b-day that's for a guitar and not a bass..so my tone changed quite a bit (it's a Fender Frontman 15G)
I want to buy a Crate 120W w/ two 12"s :D
as for knowing every note on the board (good luck), that's what I'm trying to learn now :(...I want to learn all the "mode" patterns but I'm too lazy
ooooo...
I forgot,
my strings are .11, .15, .18, .26, .36, .50
all the songs on that site are w/ GHS Nickel Rockers
but I just put on GHS Boomers
I think strings affect the tone(?);)

hey you play cool i like your like hm style of playing but where did you learn i mean where did you start
thanks man,
as for how I started..
my dad played guitar about thirty years ago, so when I started playing
he showed me the basic chords (D,D7,Dm,A,Am,A7,etc) and the structure
of a 12bar blues. He plays bass too, so occasionally we "jam" (mostly "House of the Rising Sun" haha) :).
that's how I started

oh yes my father played guitar too ;)) and house of the rising sun is cool :)
oooooo right,
well I started w/ the pentatonic box like everyone else
I haven't been playing all that long, so I still work preety hard on
improving my improvising (just bought a new book)
right now I just play a mutated scale all over the neck, I'm not
sure what it's called, and occasionally I'll play major notes (major scale)
like, I'd say...get some backing tracks, find a set of notes
that sounds right to you, and just start jamming hardcore
like for me...blues stuff in A I play...A,B,C,D,Eb,E,F#,G most
of the time...
for country stuff like Sweet Home Alabama, just play major pent.
(like D Cadd9 to G chords)
for punk or Reggae that's "happy sounding" (major) I'll play a major scale)
and I'll play minor and dorian somtimes...
just sit there for a really long time and improvise to music, tap your foot
