What are your favourite strings?

I've tried fender, ernie ball, dean markley's, d'addario, martin and martin s.p's

After chopping and changing all of the above i've settled with martin s.p's . partly because the treble strings are gold in colour and which match my machine heads!!! I started out with 10's and moved on to 11's at the moment.

I would like to try the one's they put on new Taylor guitars i think there 'exilirs' or something.

If someone else has posted this before forgive me - but hey!- i'm new to the forum!

My strings used to be silver, now they're gold, from over use...and i hate my strings. i have to tune my guitar every other day(NOT FUN) especially that it ruins my mood.i have to keep restraining myself from throwing the guitar over the room.
i dont even know what my strings are cause my friend restringed it for me last(she snapped a string)..
Basically, i need new strings on my acoustic but i have no idea what would be a good pick. anyone?

oh i know the feeling! you only stop yourself from smashing it up cuz you know youd be pissed at missing it...lol....
time for a break :)

as far as elixirs....hmmm...well honestly....
we put them on my husbands old gibson....he likes them...they are kind of silky feeling when you slide....easy on the fingers....they do have nice tone....
however... I *HATE* them...ok hate is a strong word....but i dont think ill ever put them on my guitar because of this....
after playing with d'addarios (which i havent really decided if i like...i want to try others too....) i find the elixirs to feel "mushy"...they just seem TOO soft...then again i think he bought a lighter weight string too....still...not for me...

just my opinion...

Merci :)
Strings are pretty cheap and i really dont want to tune my guitar so often so i guess i'll just try a few different brands. i want the strings to be a bit..hmmm...tough..not sure that's the word but when my strings are a little tighter i feel more in control of them.
so i'll try others and see which one suits my fingers best.:)

sorry for butting in but whats the big deal about tuning your guitar? i tune mine every time i pick it up. I use an electric tuner. and it takes about 20 seconds -bong, bong, bing, bing, ting ,ting and thats it!!!

i might add that i only have to 'tweak it' its never way out.
(unless my kids have been 'at it' )

on another point. How long does it take for a guitarist to be able to tune up by ear? i've been playing 4 years and i still haven't a clue! (maybe if one string was out i could do it - but thats all)

i tune my guitar by ear, sometimes it takes me a minute, sometimes up to fifteen... i wish it were just bong bing ting! then i'd have no problem at all.
what really gets to me is that i'd sit down to play something and then find that my guitar is so out of tune, so i sit there tuning it, getting more and more frustrated by the minute, so by the time im finished, im too pissed off to play.
if it were one string , fine but all of them...*grumble grumble*......

hehe thanks, i will. :) except i think getting new strings will help me solve the problem.
you see, i dont want to contradict myself but tuning your guitar can be fun if it takes a few seconds and if i didnt have to do it so often...i like doing it by myself,it feels like wow i can do something but you know, everyday is a little too much for me.

ahhh yeah i dont mind tuning too much just a little cuz mostly its just a little out....
but i think it wouldnt be such a pain if i could do it by ear...if that were the case it really would be no problem.....i dont think i could survive without my chromatic tuner....at least not right now...but i have hopes of some day.....

i usually get that frustrated throw my guitar feeling when either
A) i keep "missing" something or
B) my kid needs my attention every 3 minutes when im just tryin to find a little practice time....*sigh*

I have just tried out GHS Bronze.. not bad, still I prefer my D'adarrio (don't check my spelling). I use a heavy string gauge .013 on my acoustic, .010 on my electric. upside is the tone... down side, more string stretch, so I tune more often. I have been playing for 35 years and now can tune on the fly without a tuner... but that is a new development, only the last ten years or so. A good set of machine heads make a big difference look for something with a ratio like 14:1 or 16:1. There is now a lot of info regarding ear training. you may want to look into that.

it's my mom(mum) that drives me nuts when im playing the guitar...practice time somehow always clashes with housework time:rolleyes:
you could just lock up your kid in the closet while u practice jaytee ..hehe..j\k..or give him a guitar to play with..or her...it's all in the family :D
now as soon as Shawn puts up guitar stringing lessons, ill restring my guitar myself..another disaster but the best way to learn, dont u think :)

i was Just wondering 's.s' (thats your short name)

if you'd ever tried locking your mom up in the closet - worked wonders for me when i was at home!!!

ahahahaha

you guys are awful...lol....j/k....

actually im kinda waiting for the end of the school year to get her something....i just think it would be better for her to start off during summer when it wont distract her so much from her school work.....plus she is 7 so i know it seems alot of teachers dont recommend guitar for such a young child....im kinda hoping she picks up violin tho instead....but by then shell be 8...and ill let her choose of course...i wanted to last year but got talked out of it......

so...its in the plans!

I have gotten Martin C.F. strings several times and each time I used them, my D string always snapped. After a couple of other brands of strings I'd say, D'Addarios are the best for me. I use Elixirs on my electric, and it's pretty good too.

im currently running Martin 12 string 10's and ive got no complaints, decent sounding good quality strings
much prefer Ernie Ball custom guages for my electric though
