i have a berington with 2 single pickups and one humbucker.
is it possible to wire it for dual humbucking mode?
right now it has a 2 position pod for the humbucker to switch it between single and humbucking mode, but i want to run dual humbucking mode by using the two singles as a humbucker.
Anyway, if anyone knows anything please respond.
In fact if anyone knows ANYWHERE to get more info on "berington" guitars let me know.
Thanks.
this can be done but you would have to take one of the single coils appart and turn the magnets around and wire them out of phase (or maybe even rewind the pickup), to be honest I don't think it would alter the sound from the guitar that much especially if the pickups aren't good quality.
OK I've just gone and read up on this, and I think (although I'm starting to doubt my knowledge) that just wiring the coils out of phase will cancel the hum (which makes sence) but having the coils out of phase will give a very different sound to what your used to.
apparently modern strats have a humbucking setup in the 2 and 4 positions (and maybe the 3rd) of the switch caused buy the middle coil haveing the magnets flipped and the coil wound the other way, this would give you a similar sound to what your used to but less hum, but it would be a lot of work (there are a few thousand turns of wire on good pickups) and it might not even be possible with the pickups you have.
If you just want to get rid of the noise try shielding you control and pickup cavities.
If its a different sound your looking for try wiring the pickups out of phase its a lot easier to put it back then.
dont be affraid to try different wiring setups as long as you know basically what your doing.
I leave it in your hands.

You can wire those two single coils in series so they will act as one humbucker. Then put a 3-way switch in place of the 5-way (im assuming it has a 5-way if it has 3 pickups). The 3-way switch will allow you to be on either the true humbucker or the "humbucker" (kinda like any other 2 pickup guitar). I would be interested to know what that would sound like.
