Hi peeps
I have been practicing scales but dont really know where I can use it. I know that if you stick to the notes of a certain scale you can make some very fancy licks, But I dont know if that is how it used.

Here is how I study scales see if you guys can tell if I am on the right track.
1. I memorized a few scales MAJOR, MINOR and MINOR PENTATONIC I think.

2. I then use one of this scales. I then pick a bunch of note with in the scale pattern with in the entire neck to play improvise licks.

3. I am not very good at transposing so I stick to the pattern I memorized.

Can anybody tell me how to practice scales and modes and how I can use them for playing songs, writing songs or improvising.

I just want to know how everyone else practices/uses scales and modes so that I know if I am doing it right
