what is the diff between a solo and a riff?

a riff is just a line of a guitar part. one section of guitar that can be played over again as a rythym or something. a solo is either improving with solos or just playing really really fast in some cases.
usually a solo has a rythym and then the lead guitar just goes at it for a while. im not really good at explaining stuff ... but if you need more help just ask someone else.

i think of a riff as a small, basic guitar part that is built on to make a complete song. a solo, idk how to really describe it, its just the guitar playing something over the rythym like xero said, im not quite sure how else to explain it. if itihnk of somethin ill tell ya

oh so its kinda that one part that metallica repeats in enter sandman, the part in the very beginning and in the background throughout the song???
