I just found a picture of this guitar and I thought it looks great.
Does anybody play this guitar or know if it sounds good/bad. Or other pros/cons and comments?
Later I looked at the guitar's price ... 900$ (Internet special)and more.
Is this guitar worth this price? Or do you just pay for the guitar being an original Gibson?

I just as at sam ash yesterday (buying a line 6 pod :) ) and I saw they had a lot of SG gothics. There was a deal on them. I glanced at them and I think it said they were for 500 or 600 bucks. I picked one up just to kinda inspect the construction of it. It seemed pretty nice for a gibson with that small of a price tag. I didn't get a chance to plug it in or get any serious playing time on it. I want to go back because I forgot to get an accessory for the POD. If I go back, I can play one and give ya my 2 cents on it and the exact price of it.

Hey Kitara.
I bought my first SG in 1966. It was stolen in 1999, at the Y2K Jam in Seattle New Years Night.
I bought a 1999 SG to replace it.

It has changed over the years. For the worst. My old SG was about 8 lbs. This one is around 7 lbs.
The neck is the same.
The pickups are different now, cheaper in my opinion. I run my stuff through tube amps and possibly the newer p/ups are made for solidstate, I don't know. But they sounded really cheesey. There are people who swear by the p/ups on the SGs that are sold today, but I don't think they played an old one.
I changed my P/ups to 59 at the neck and Pearly Gates at the Bridge. I play primarily the blues, and these p/ups carry the sound I like.
The machine heads aren't what they use to be either. I'm still using the stock M/Hs but it's time to replace them as I'm noticing my tuning slipping. Yeah, yeah, I know about the adjustments. The M/Hs are cheap. Period. They look nice, but under the shine and fake plating,,,,,.
The body is still mahogany, and that matters, the neck is the same, and that matters too, but the electronics is not the quality it was, due to cost cutting at the two American plants where they are made.
Here is a URL for the Gibson SG site.

http://www.gibson.com/products/gibson/SG/

The neck is the same neck that was on the Les Paul.
I've seen SGs on sale for $500, and normally for about 700. Nine is way to much. The guy who is selling them for $900 must have a kid entering college and needs the tuition up front.
All I can say it shop around, check out the website. Each model of SG has it's own set of P/ups from the factory. Play them all, notice the sound each model has. Then decide.
Good luck.

The Gothic SG is the only SG I like. It's just the standard SG with a new look.

New gothic SG's are about 800-900 bucks. You're not paying much extra for the gothic name, its just the fact that all Gibsons are rediculously expensive. My advice to you is to just get an Epiphone off of Ebay. I got a brand new limited edition Les Paul standard off of there for only 350 bucks, and it plays almost as well as a Gibson.

Honestly, comparing something to a gibson doesn't make me want to buy it. Gibson is the standard in vintage and antique guitar quality. Now they are just riding on their name; making cheap quality, exensive guitars.
I would say go with a different brand.
