i only have notes on the 1,2,3 frets on the 4th, 3rd string. ive looked in books and the only notes are those and the1,2 string but nothing like the 5th, 7th frets and nothing below that neather:confused:

Most beginning books do only work with the notes in the first position. Off hand I do not know a good book to point you in the direction of. If come across one I will post it. But check out the link below, it should help get you started.

Try the AbsoluteFretboardTrainer program for your computer.
There should be a demo to download from the site, if it looks and works well for you, pay the $19.95, get a little more functionality...it's good for bass and guitar, and you program in the instrument, how many strings, you can even chose the wood and inlay to mimic your own instrument. The sound ( hope you have a soundcard) can mimic fingers or pick, electric or acoustic. And the notes show on a bass cleff staff for bass, G Staff for guitar.
