My little brother met Joe twice and went to 2 concerts. Jeff Campitelli gave him drum sticks too. I do like Joe's music, but Im more into Vai.

i think with satriani and other great virtuosos their speed is
also dubbed with varying technical styles such as sweeps
directional control, string skiping, muted notes etc...
the best way i could give advice on increased speed is to
remember that your picking hand is just as important as the fretted
hand. they must be trained to be 100% in sync with each other.
1 exercise i do that i learned from a tony macalpine
instructional video is to take a 134 finger pattern on high e
and the lower b string , and practice alternate picked pattern
with each note then move the whole pattern down the neck
to its lower octave. Thats one of my favorite exercises.

In the words of a friend - "Playing fast is just the same as playing slow"
I started learning the Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" solo, and I slowed it right down with a metronome, then gradually built up speed. Now I can play it properly. Slowing it down also helps you to work out fingering at an easier pace.

well its both try this out remember up down pickstroke
------------------- 9---10----12-----10----9----------10---9------------------------------9---10----12------------------------12---------------12----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
notice what makes a simple run sound sound so neoclassical
is you go in one direction and then go backwards emphasizing
each sucessive note cool huh

my tab came out wrong anyways play 9 10 12 on b string
in order then play 9 10 12 on high e at 12 then reverse
the notes on e to 10 9 then 12 on b then back to e 10
9 then b 12 10 then e 9 then b 12 10 9
this is a very insightful way of note repition
