I am having trouble trying to build chords from the chord formula charts. I do not understand how a chord is generated from the chord formula charts because the notes in that chord vary in their order that the chord is played. For example, a Cmajor chord is 135 in the Cmajor scale and the notes are C E G in that order to make up the C chord. What about making a Dmajor chord? It is still 135 so the notes are D F# A but they are played 1513. So how do you build a chord with those notes? Please help! Email me if you can help me at y2k911tj@yahoo.com---------------Thanks

1 3 5 is correct, but as long as your chords have those notes, they should sound correct, doesnt have to be in any order, except the root must be first. if the root is not first you get an inversion...

What's an Inversion and how do they work???

an inversion is bascially when the bass note is different
example
C Chord:
Normal : CEG
1st inversion : EGC
2nd inversion : GCE
inversions are used to make progressions sound better.
example..
a progression:
F C Am
normally... the bass notes would be F, C A
if you use an 2nd inversionn for the C however,
the bass notes would be F G A.. which would sound better since it
is progressing downwards...
I think that's supposed to be how u use it..
another example
Bm F# D
use an inversion of F#, so that C# is the bass...

I would just like to add something. The order does not matter and the reason they are played on as many strings as possible is to get a fuller sound. Also if you notice that the barchords have the third played on only one string. For example an A is a bar chord at the 5th fret with the middle finger on the G string. This is the ONLY third in the chord. They only have one because you can easily turn it into an Am by simply lifting off the middle finger. Because of this, when you're constructing chords try to only add one third and see how it would be easier to get different kinds of the chord (sus 2..sus 4..etc).
