personally i wouldnt classify myself as a bass god... but i can hodl my own with most bands and bassists... im nto a good slap bassist so i think that takes some skill away from me.. BUT i beilive slap is more for funk and jazz and im a metal head so oh well

It'll be hard for me to relate any kind of experience, because i'm in-experienced myself. I've only been playing for a year and a half now. The band i'm in right now just threw a bass on me and said "We need a bass player, we don't care how much you suck, just play the damn thing". That was in november of that year. By August I was able to keep up with the rest of them (PLaying really simple versions of the song), but in the time since that august, i've been able to get a grasp on stuff like the grace notes and mechanics of songs.

dude u really played with 3 doors down? i hope u got it on tape... or at least some autographs.
i wish i was good enough to play with an established band... or that there were other artists (bassists, drummers etc) around here that are good enough to start a band with, but all the good ones are already in bands or play a style of music i dont really care for.
but in less than 3 months ill be in college, hopefully in about 4 months ill have started my own band.
but on the thread topic, i dont know how id classify myself. i dont want to sound like i have a big head or anything, im definitely good for the amount of time ive been playing (less than 2 years,) my ear has gotten VERY good, ive gotten to a point that i could figure out the tunings on a guitar just by listening to it, and i dont use tabs, if i wanna learn a song, ill learn it by ear or buy the sheet music and struggle through that. i CAN improvise but i cant do it too well with a backing track, if im just sittin around ill just start playin a blues scale and 20 minutes or so later ill move on to something else.
but i cant really tap, do pinch harmonics, sweep picking or any of that good stuff too well, and my speed isnt to the point i would like it to be.

Anyway, going back on topic... I've been focussing on rhythm guitar for the year and a half that I've been playing, but I've recently been trying to work on some leads and improv. I can play blues, punk, jazz, folk, and metal chords. I'm getting kind of tired of chords, so I'm moving onto lead guitar. It's coming.. slowly. My fingers are sluggish, and they arent very dexterious (when I put my middle finger down, my pinkee comes up a little). I started a practice schedule to improve my leads, and if I stick to that for a while my leads will improve. i hope.
