I have a tab which says play A5,D5,E5.
I very well know they are power chords.Which string do i play them on.Power chords which have root on 6th,or 5th ,or 4th strings are all named as R5.There is no legend either.Where do i play these chords then?

You will not know from just seeing A5, D5, E5. It could be any form of the power chord. Just in the same way you see an F chord, the are many ways to play an F. So if a chord is not written in tab forum, or there is not a chord ledged to tell you which version of the chord to play, you will have to use your ear and make that decision based on sound.

I'd venture a couple of guesses. Could be the A note with only it's accompanying fifth. ie a5 would be string six fret 5 and string six fret 7 etc. The other posibility is that they want each chord played as a dominant 7th, which is the fifth chord in diatonic harmony. No way to be sure. One of the weaknesses with tab.
