I'm pretty sure that Godsmack uses Dropped-C tuning. Click (http://www.mxtabs.net/songs.php?path=Guitar,g,8034,Godsmack&PHPSESSID=25ff15d917e4b460dadcc45dc7c480d1)

Just start looking through the tabs. Find something that looks pretty easy (to you, at least) and start there.

Most metal songs are done in standard, half step, and whole step down tuning.

ie-

Metallica,
Slayer - ( who also have a few drop C songs, theyre a bit advanced tho)
Pantera
Black Sab
Anthrax

etc..

I've tried tabs in standard for alot of those bands songs but they sound like crap and are hard to play in that tuning.

Sabbath did some stuff in C# tuning, but it was standard, just tuned down...

Don't limit yourself to any tuning just to be like the bands you like... I find one of the most common mistakes that people make is to find a group they like which uses some weird tuning, and then they tune their guitar that way, and refuse to tune the guitar any other way at all...

Although, having said that, I am not against different tunings, in fact, I think some of them are actually pretty sweet... and what the artist does in whatever tuning is up to them, as long as it sounds good to the listener...

Just my 2 cents... :D

omg zero my guitarist dose that... he likes soul fly.. so he tunes his guitar to drop c and only plays in that... and geez i hate that tunnign and everythign i right to go along with his stuff is like exactly the same cause there is like no other notes in that tunning besides... C G F

My bassist is a System freak, so he constantly tunes Drop C. I'm a System freak too, but i also play other kinds of music, so i like standard more than any other.

ive occasionally tuned my guitar down that low, but that's really just if im going to be playing along with a cd. i like some of SOAD's songs, lost prophets have a couple too. but if im gonna downtune itll either be drop D or have the whole guitar tuned down one step (for the most part that's what I've used.)

Question... why u guyz wanna tune till so low? To get more heavy chords?

as fizz mentioned pantera, i'll say 'floods' by pantera is an awesome drop c song.

how do you do that?

I'm not so sure what C-tuning your talkin' about. If it's Open C, then anything on Metallica's new album St. Anger is tragically simple. Looking for something a little more challenging? Go with In Flames. They play in Drop-C, and have some of the ULTIMATE metal riffs, none o' that Nu-metal whimpie stuff, just straight up meta. Children of Bodom is a favorite of mine, great guitar players, but they are one step down.

no come as you are and lithium are just 2 steps down,
btw if yoor having trouble playing in drop - c that might mean you are a beginner. if you are, spend some time in regular tuning. dont start switching to different tunings right away.

BassTallica

@ kitarist C would be CGCFAD.. or D down a step for some

@Metal_Massacre not open c.. actually i have NEVER heard of open c.. the new tunning is mostly CGCFAD.. which i call drop c but most people call d down a step(which might also be the technical term.. and yea the new stuff is a little easy... but not supepr easy

@ebill 2 steps down is C...

the E string is standard
1/2 step Eb
one step down D
1 1/2 step Db
two steps down C

I am not so sure what exact tunings they use, but Electric Wizard and most other heavy doom bands use drop D/C tuning. Electric Wizard made a song in Drop G tuning too. :) Just look online for E.W. tabs. They're fun to play too.

Peace,
Dan.

kittie uses drop c..now drop G, THATS news to me! even for a seven string the string would be floppy wouldnt it? i dunno, well yeah...umm...i guess i have no point in this reply. (:

i know i'm gonna annoy a lot of people by saying this (and i like metal too) but...

most metal IS fairly easy

danmaftei
07-27-2003, 12:27 PM
Depends on what metal. Good metal is never easy. Try playing Van Halen or Opeth.

Easy is a relative word, my friend ;).

And to respond to adam: most <insert genre> IS fairly easy ;).

nu-uh, punk is the shizznit, its the hardest stuff EVER, no one could ever call it "easy!"

in case it wasnt clear, the above was obviously SARCASM.

but yeah i agree with u man, some of the best-known, catchiest songs are the easiest to play.

danmaftei
07-28-2003, 11:27 AM
I think 90% of the members of this board automatically think "Sarcasm" when "talent" "difficult" or "hard to play" is used in the same sentence as "punk". But there is one punk band which is actually very talented. In terms of songwriting, that is, but talented nonetheless: NoMeansNo. Even if you don't like punk check this band out. They'll blow you away.

Peace,
Dan.

Try out songs from the new Metallica album- St. Anger it's mostly drop C stuff

ibleedmarshall
08-17-2003, 02:26 PM
yeah, St. Anger should be pretty easy, not difficult riffs, and the complete lack of solos...
