I would greatly appreciate some enlightenment on getting better at soloing, gaining speed, improvising, getting muscle reflexes working, getting stamina, etc. I know that's a broad range of ideas, but I had to try.

Just play. Jam as much as you can and it will start to go more smoothly.

yes- i do that a lot. maybe not as much as i should. but then again i want to be able to incorporate mind blowing licks like yngwie. like right now i'm working on incorporating runs and sweep arpeggios that are movable. which, btw, what are some good forms of sweep arpeggios to start out improvising with? i came up with a m and M and sus4 pattern...any suggestions on this?

I just kept listing to the solo I was trying to learn and read the tabs, it make go slow and take alot of work but you will get the satisfaction. It worked for me, try mr. crowley if you have not tryed that yet, I don't really know how much you can play so thats just taking a guess. Hope it goes well for u

a simple C shaped chord does well for sweeping practice..tho not to high high where the stupid frets are thicker..

I think it's pretty important to learn other bands solo's if you want to improve your own, because your finger muscles get used to the step up to soloing, if you get me.

If you can get band's solo's down to a tee, then you know that you're capable of playing them, and then you can, (steal isn't a word I like to use) ..'incorporate' some of the licks in those solo's into your solo playing.

Also, if all else fails, you can join a tribute band :D

My guitar teacher says, that when it comes to licks, you have to learn from the masters. So you should learn other peoples solos.

if you just copy one guitarist, it's stealing. But if you copy dozens of them, it's genius. So instead of learning a solo by Kirk Hammett, learn one by Paco Pena or Wes Montgomery.

Heres what I did to get better. I own every metallica CD and Ozzy's greatest hits and Van Halen's as well.
Those are some of the best solo guitarist there is and was. After pounding the sound into my head and played some mouth guitar to it, I pulled up the tabs. For my favorites. Once you learn a couple start combining. my favs that I always play are these......
No More Tears
Fade to Black
Master of Puppets
Crazy Train
Mr. Crowley
One
You really got me now
Eruption(im not perfect on it but im getting better EVH is awesome)
Runnin with the devil

Thats the usuals then I make up my own. Another thing is to learn the blues. Even if you dont like them. Ive got some nasty blues licks of mine and they are on MP3 if anyone wants them. Ive also got some great solos if you want to hear those as well. My blues is all improv but my normal is planned out. If you like just Email me and I will hook you up. They are really great songs.

Just starting though, so who knows where I'll end up.
