Ok I'm a super beginner I and I am extremely upset after trying to string my steel string acoustic I need help on how to do it and why I get that horrible buzzing sound when I tried to put the string on. the strings used to be just fine no buzzing at all so I must be doing something wrong!

Dont be too upset, when you just pick up a guitar,i guess it's normal to get frustrated everytime something goes wrong and you dont know what to do. This is what cyberfret.com is for.:)

so where on the guitar is the buzz coming from?
top or bridge? or frets?
i probably won t be able to help as i class myself as a beginner too.
however i once had an electric guitar which buzzed on the high E string and it ended up having to have a new nut.

its comming from the fret bars but with the old strings before I tried to change them they didn't buzz. but now the strings are touching the fret bars and I guess that whats causing the problem its just I don't know how to solve it. I thought it was just the new strings so just to check I put one of the old strings back on and it did the same thing I guess all I need to know is how to get it to stop touching the fret bars
thanks
ok.
do you know if your new strings are the same gauge as the old ones?
if the new ones are a lot lighter then the string tension would be a lot less which may cause buzzing.
i changed from 10's to 11's when i got the action lowered on my guitar and i once tried going back to 10's but i couldn't because buzzing would occur.
also you may need your truss rod adjusting to alter the angle of the neck from the body. Heavy gauge strings may have compensated for a poorly adjusted truss rod.
P.S dont hold me to any of the above as i'm not too hot on all this stuff myself yet.
P.P.S what guitar do you have anyway??
Nick
surely the best thing to do (if you value your guitar) would be to go to a guitar shop, and get them to show you how to do it.
that way you dont mess up your fret bars.
