View Full Version : worn frets
How long can i expect my frets to last?
my guitar is two years old and i play it every day. and already there's fairly deep grooves in my frets especially the first five on the high E and B strings. this is slightly worrying.
any comments and advice?
Thanks

I have no Idea what kind of guitar you have or what style you play.... BUT 2 YEARS, something is wrong with this picture. I have played on the same frets on my guitars for decades without deep grooves in the frets. I would check the manufactures warranty and see if it covers this. To refret a guitar is a expensive thing to do, NOT something I would recomend you try on your own, this a job for a real pro. I would call the manufacturer and scream.... this ain't right!!
my guitar is a fender electro acoustic (dg41sce)
it wasn't cheap (400 english pounds) well, not cheap to me anyway!!
i get the idea that re-fretting is a bit of a problem, i once mentioned it to the man in my local guitar shop and he just frowned and umm'd and arrr'd.
i play mostly fingerstyle. 90% of the time.

Nick... fender is pretty good about standing behind their work, It sounds to me like a bad batch of fret wire. I have seen really cheap guitars do this (like under $75) but I haven't heard about frnder doing it. My only concern is this.... can you crush granite in your left hand? (just joshin'), call fender, try to get them to fix it ask for harder fret wire when it gets redone (it's not a bad guitar, just bad fret wire)
