I am a novice guitar player and primarily strum chords as accompaniment to my own singing.
I would like to be able to transpose chords to get songs into my vocal range instead of using a capo. Is that something that can be learned fairly easily are does it require a lot of music theory?
Where should I look for information about this.

It does require knowledge of music theory. There is a transposition chart in the capo lesson. After you go through that lesson, you should not only have an idea about how to use a capo (which is what you would use if you wanted to raise the original key)....but you will also be able to use the transposition chart to just change the chords to any other another key. You are just going to ignore where it indicated what fret you should capo on.

Here is the how to use a capo lesson.
