With common punk songs such as green days - basket case or blink 182's - going away to college (i know its pop punk :p) does your strumming pattern make much difference to the sound when using power chords? i just find it easier to do than just down strumming really rappidly

i just strum to the rythmn of the music but im not sure if its how i should be learning or if its technically right....

just strumming up and down easier (im hitting the right strings) but im not sure if it will make the song sound wrong and make me look stupid

cheers

Generally punk music is played all with downstrokes, as it gives a heavier "chunk", a more rythmic sound... :)

It usually takes quite a while to be able to play all downstrokes really fast... You just need to practice... Keep playing the songs, and eventually you will get up to speed...

yeh cheers to all that helped

im getting quicker the more i prectice but i still cant find any tabs with the strumming patterns so its more of an interpritation and i dont wanna learn it wrong again.

so u think its worth investing in a album book with the tabs strumming pattern and the lot in it for reference to get my hearing on the songs better?
cheers

Green Day doesnt have any songs that are pure down down down down, they all have picking patterns.

The Ramones are a good example of down strokes only.
