guitar strings for beginners

What are some good guitar strings for beginner players guage and type any help would be appreciated

well, i know of 2 names that are reliable, i havent changed my strings too often :eek:

Ernie Ball
D'Aquistro (or summat like that)

last strings i bought i wasnt sure what guages to get aswell, and asked the guy for "in the middle"

he gave me 42, 32, 24w, 16, 11, and 9 (from Bass E to Treble E)

i dunno what the hell they mean, but my treble e sounds so sweet now.

hope this helps sumwhat, maybe someone can explain to me the difference in guages?
