I really like music that is a blend of rock and jazz (had a spell ten years ago where I was playing an alto saxophone...don't ask :D ) ...
But I like rock, of course, and I like jazz... and I like the two together... But what I really like to PLAY more than anything else is a sort of fusion. I am really into melodic rock guitar, of course, too...as you can tell by my favorite guitarists post elsewhere.
I was listening to one of my David Sanborn CD's (he plays alto sax) and thinking, I would like to try one of these songs with the guitar sometime... especially this song called "Goodbye."
Okay, basically, I'm not trying to be anyone's clone, not even my a clone of my guitar heroes--not even Neal. I'm just me, and I want to play like me... I think Carlos Santana said something about taking everything you learn from others, but in then end, it comes out with your own fingerprints, or something like that... I figure he's right... No one can be a better ME than ME... :D

Anyway, I was wondering what kind of styles all of you play... Most, probably play rock, alternative, progressive, or classic rock styles... Or is it country, gospel, or jazz????
What kind of music do you like to play, that really comes from your heart and soul (okay, I'm a really poetic woman, here :D ). What is YOUR favorite style???

Well as most people on this site know, I am a huge metallica and red hot chili peppers fan. Some bands I also like are:
Rage against the machine
Pantera
Fastball
Lit
Green day
Guns n' roses
etc.
I basically like lots of styles of music. When I write music I ussaully write metal or rock..... not really funk (even though that's what I listen to 90% of the time) the kind of rock/metal is fast so I guess that's where the metal influnce is, It's also a little bit of blues too. I'm trying to listen to lots of different types of music right now. Famous or non-famous. I have a steel slide so I try to add that in my playing. The solo's really sound nice when you use a slide. Anyway basically my favorite music is funk, metal, rock and blues, a little bit of classical in there too. I don't really have a favorite.

I would have to say that I really like music that fuses different styles together as well. I really like progressive rock, which in a way fuses some different styles together from jazz, classical, funk, metal, etc. The more known prog rock groups are Rush, Kansas, Genesis,Yes, King Crimson....and some lesser known....Spock's Beard, Echolyn, Dream Theater, Magellan, Yezda Urfa, Enchant, Gentle Giant, Finneus Gauge, Hatfield and the North, National Health......
I really enjoy listening to and playing traditional bebop jazz.....Joe Pass, Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis.......And I love to play the blues of course :)

I like to listen to and play metal and rock mostly, with some punk, and a little blues.

I play a lot of jazz and blues but mostly my own. Favorites to listen to are SRV, Buddy Guy, Charlie Parker, Herbie Han****, Theloneious (sorry T) Monk, Joe Pass, Bruce ****burn. My favorite album hands down is Jethro Tull 'This Was'. If you've never heard this album, you've never heard Tull at their peak.
