Hey Folks, In my 20-odd years of playing, I mostly played rhythm and sing, I've always ignored lead playing, I know a lot of chuck berry licks but not much more, I kind of want to explore lead playing in the vein of Angus Young, Jimmy Page, and other blues based players. What I really need are some pentatonic cliche licks that'll sound fast, any website suggestions I really have not had time to explore this site in full, But any suggestions for some cliche tabs out there? Thanks!

Hey,take those Chuck Berry licks and expand on them.
repeat each of these licks over and over...
Chuck Berry type riff:
e-----5-5
b-----5-5
g-7^b----
variation on Chuck Berry riff:
e---------5-
b------5----
g-7^b-------
more variations:
e--------------
b-----5--8-----
g-7^b----------
e--------------
b-----5--8-p-5-
g-7^b----------
e---------5--------
b------5-----8-p-5-
g-7^b--------------
e---------5--8-p-5-
b------5-----------
g-7^b--------------
e-----5-------
b-7^b---8-p-5-
g-------------
e-8-p-5---
b-------5-
g---------
use the top three strings portion of the minor pentatonic scale to come up with your own variations
e-5-----8
b-5-----8
g-5--7
and use this shape too
e-8----10-
b-8----10-
g---9-----
then combine those into one larger (expanded) shape:
e-5-----8-----10-
b-5-----8-----10-
g-5--7-----9-----
play the minor pentatonic off the root and 5th of minor chords and off the 6th and 3rd of major chords and use these types of licks and any variations you may come up with on your own
also do unison bends and oblique bends:
unison bends:
e---------5---
b-5-------8^b-
g-7^b---------
oblique bends:
e-------|----------|----------|---------8--|-8----|------8--|-------8----
b-8-----|--8-------|------8---|------8-----|-8^b-|-8^b----|-8--(8)---8-
g-7^b--|--8^b-----|-7^b-----|-7^b-------|------|---------|-7^b-------
try to come up with some of your own variations
Okay that takes care of Angus (except maybe throw in some slides and double stops) and points you in the right direction for Page's style. But to sound even more Page-ey throw the b5th and major 3rd(blues notes) into your minor pentatonic scale licks and tricks etc.And just for good measure throw in some Ted Nugent,B.B.King and some Punk rock into your listening habits and try to gleen some licks from them as well. Also Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, and early Rush stuff and some Steely Dan(tons of killer licks) and Dire Straits.
throw in diatonic notes for some triplet action, throw in chromatic notes at will, throw in some stretch pentatonics for some cool sounding wide intervals(see expanded pent shape above)go to guitarworld.com's online lessons and check out the Page lessons, the Dickie Betts lessons and the Zakk Wylde lessons and all the other great lessons there.
When in doubt,jam out!!
