hey on another news group I use the posters have an anual thing they call a widdle fest this year was the second, anyway I thought it may be kinda fun to have one here, what it is is a chord progression say a 12 bar blues or anything what each person does a 30/60 second solo over and its all mixed together to make a track so one song could have about 20 different players putting ther own bit on it. It is very sucsessful on uk.music.guitar they have put together 2 CD's any body fancy having a go at a Cyberfret Widdle fest?

Hmm...yeah, but since I can't improvise, I probably couldn't participate in this project, and this would be quite frustrating. Despite this I'd like to listen to other forum members soloing.

i think its a great idea, for those who can actually play, i say they should record something and put it up.
as for me, cant play s**t.

Yeah I think it would be fun, also I'm curious to hear how good/creative we all are.

But wouldn't we all have to have some kind of recording software and/or hardware for it to work?

One last thing, could you post a link to uk.music.guitar, cause I'm interested in having a look how it was made and how it sounded.

Well, you have a PC, so you can record and edit, only you have to got the right applications. Kinda curious if these exist for free? I am also very fond of the idea, and plz list the url to uk.music.guitar

I thought it was put together well (funny intro) and some good soloing, but I thought that the backing track was a bit difficult to improvise to, maybe because I'm still new to improvising. I can only do minor pentatonc licks so far. Also it wasn't my prefered style of music but I still thought it was good.

LOOK OUT........CLIFF!!!!!!:)

Yeah it's not me either but if we were to do something similar we could come up with a backing track and your solo could be in any style you like

smfulla
11-30-2001, 12:41 AM
dude I'll join in =]
we should star with sumthing simple so everyone could join in, say like a 12 bar blues prgression (I know it's like the most over used stuff) so everyone could get atleast sumthing going

Levinson Blade

I agree, Im working over the next few days but when I get a chance I shall put a 12 bar together and MP3 it for download

Is anyone else doing anything?

smfulla

EVERYONE JOIN IN!!!!!!!!! =]
I know there are HEAPS of awesome guitarists in here, and even the ones who don't think that they'd be upto scratch (like myself) should join in.
Coz you don't have to do some MIND ALTERING solo that will just rip the pants off of anybody. Just play anything. I also think that bassists should join in. Come on, play sum lead bass like Cliff used to. =]]]
I can't wait till everyone gets together and jams like this =]]]]

Sory for the delay but I had another project to work on that had to come first. I have now got a backing track a 12bar minor progression Am x4 Dm x 2 Am x 2 E7 Dm Am E7 so if you fancy soloing over it and sending your work to me I shall mix a track together, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOUR ABILITY IS have a go it's just a bit of fun its quite a slow progession so not for the shredders i thought that this would interest more players

You will req winzip to open the file and it's available as MP3 or .wav

The only problem is the file is too large to post here so until I can get it posted on a site i shall have to send it via e-mail so let me know if you want it sending to you and at what postbox

yeah sure...CDeX is great... its small, versatile and encodes/decodes any combination of .wav .mp3 and CD-audio...
you can also record multiple digital tracks with it, but i;m not sure exactly how... anyway it's all at this link...

http://www.cdex.n3.net

What is everybody else using to record their stuff? What software are you using?

I downloaded that cdx thing but it's not that great. What else could I use?

Edit - I written my part, but if I can't get it onto the computer, I've made a powertab file of it as a last resort.

Yeh i get it too:

Feel a little Lost?
We've redesigned the BTinternet site and the page you are looking for may have been moved. It may also be that you have mistyped a URL or followed an old bookmark

I tried right clicking and going to save as, but it says file not found.

I notice you save your own effort as a WAV, isnt this gonna make the filesize huge? I think youd be best to convert to mp3.

I downloaded the backing track ok tho, i tried to have a widdle over the top of it, then remembered i cant play guitar. Gimme a few more months and i might be able to make some sort of contribution :-)

Levinson Blade

Fixed (I Hope) The problem was I uploaded the wrong file Doh Highlander hit the nail on the head I uploaded a .wav should of been an MP3

Levinson Blade
03-23-2002, 02:17 PM
smfulla you should find some software to convert to MP3 here http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Windows/audio_processing.html

The Audio edit deluxe could do the trick dont know if its free though but have a look through you should find something

smfulla
03-24-2002, 04:51 PM
I might try and record a solo to it today
I've got nothing better to do =]
I'll have to find a host where I can upload it tho, os it might take some time

The Fury
03-26-2002, 06:02 PM
O.K, I've written my part but not recorded it yet, so do you want the guitar part on its own or played over the top of the backing track?

Levinson Blade
03-27-2002, 04:17 AM
What ever way is best for you but if you just send me your track without backing I will require that you record for the length of the backing treck and leave in the metronome at the start so if you start your playing at say 35 seconds in your recording will have 35 seconds of silence before you start does that make sence

But a recording with backing track would be easy for me

Levinson Blade

I will shortly be setting up an account at MP3.com for hosting of the trax I am hoping that this widdle thing can grow and we can arrange allsorts of styles to play This first effort is realy just a dip your toes in and I think we could make a real go of it

Responce has been a little slow and I am not sure who is taking part as yet I posted an effort of mine @ www.stephenfitzgerald.btinternet.co.uk (This was just a rushed out effort to get the ball rolling) I know The Fury is working on a track and I think smfulla is having a go so when these tracks are posted we may get a bit better responce

...yeah sorry about the delay, i have a little something all but recorded, i'll get it to you a.s.a.p...

oh, and 'respec for putting in the effort to get this going blade, it's much appreciated...

smfulla
03-27-2002, 08:43 PM
ok, so I have my track done (it sucks, hehe) now do I have to give it to you, or do I have to upload it somewhere?

oh yeah, btw, my 'solo' was just made up on the spot, and I'm not good at improvising... so that's why it sucks, hehe.

Highlander

bah i cant plug my guitar into my PC, theres no input on my soundcard thatll fit my guitar lead, is there any other way of recording it?

Levinson Blade
03-28-2002, 12:43 PM
If your soundcard has a line in you can get an adapter to plug your guitar lead in they cost next to nothing and you should get one from a good electronics retailer
