Chords on bass????

Ok my friend plays bass but he only plays by ear. The music teacher says he has to know chords to play in band. is there chords for bass or what. could someone please help us

On the bass you do not usually strum chords like a guitar player, but you do play the notes of chords individually. These are known as arpeggios. Check out these lesson on basic major and minor arpeggios on the bass.
