my guitar has a little nob on the end of the body but nothing anywhere else to hook a strap to.
This guy I met at the string cheese show this weekend told me I could tie it just behind the nut on the headstock
will this work? and if not what shoud I do

accually my guitar shop has a little device you hook up to the beginning of the neck that you can hook a strap to. I don't know what it's called though, and it's 20$ canadain (a little less than 14$ american).

I just tie it to the headstock with a round shoelace.

A lot of people have another strap button put on their guitar on the part of the neck that joins the body. The shoe string will work. You put it under the strings, behind the nut at that head stock. The disadvantage is that the strap will get in your way a little as you are play in the first position.

I would have a guitar shop put the button on for you if that is what you decide to do. Unless you feel real confident about taking a drill to your guitar.

thanks for the help guys.
How much do you think a shop would charge to place another button on my guitar?

It really should be cheap. A couple of bucks for the button, and a few to put it on. I would take it to some place that does guitar repairs, with an experienced repairperson. You don't really want some schmo that does not know what they are doing hacking away at your guitar to put a button on. And experienced person will know exactly the correct place to put it without damaging your guitar.

I don't know if you can still buy them but I bought a 'Pickboy' lock for my accoustic many years ago. It's a two part deal. You screw the base in the place of the old button and it is fixed there permanently. The other piece of it has a little push button on it that releases it from the permanent part. It uses ball bearings just like those two part key rings where you can keep some keys on one half and the rest on the other. Push a button and it becomes two key rings. Exactly the same method. I've played standing for years with this and it has never seperated spontaneously.

I just bought an attachment for a regular strat the fits right into the end of the strat that has peg to lock into. Then it just goes around the nut or like I did, put it inbetween the tuning pegs so it's out of the way. I don't think that hurts anything and it's prolly the easiest way I think. You can get these things at any music store even a Sam Goody would prolly have em...lata

You could tie fishing line or dental floss onto it so it would like like it was floating.

I need to get one of those...so I can learn to play standing up. I can do fine sitting down but not exactly standing up just quite yet. :)
