how do u pick the strings

I've had the bass guitar since yesterday. i play the electric guitar, but have no clue on how to play the bass....
do u use your thumb to pick...if not do u use all your fingers?
can i use my guitar pick?

on a bass, you can use your pick just as you would a guitar. u wouldnt really need to strum anything on a bass though.

to play slap bass, you would need your thumb, but thats a bit difficult of a technique.

when i play, i usually use my index and middle fingers to pick the strings.

is slap bass really hard....does it sound good...im gonna be playing latin music...lol

i guess if you know what you're doing, slap-bass isnt that hard. but then again, i dont really know what im doing when it comes to slap.

idk what kind of techniques you would need for latin, thats a question for someone else probably.

for latin music i woudl finger pick... you COULD use yoru thumb for teh E string.. but it wouldnt make much of a differance.. finger picking would work fine for latin music
