play a different style and jam with them, play the blues on your own or keep looking for other blues players in the area./

if you have recording software, try recording a backing track, and sending it to someone online and have them record a solo over your backing, then switch roles. Rinse and repeat, i "jam" with my friend on the west coast like this, it's good fun.

Welcome to the problem of every blues player under 30. I love the blues/blues based rock(blues based anything for that matter), but no one under 30 seems to be into it and the people that really are into it its very difficult to get a chance because you're already at a disadvantage because they think you're young therefore you must be an idiot or suck. Sorry i cant really suggest anything, i've got a drummer that can play the blues, loves it, and loves my style, but i ant find a bassist for the life of me.

are you looking to play lead or rhythm or both? I'd say just sit down with your boys and show them the 12 bar blues pattern which is pretty standard. then trade off licks or something. Just a thought.

hmmm U can just switch roles in playing a basic 12 bar blues and a blues scale...easiest way and sounds cool.
I mixed a 12 bar blues with a blues scale...

how long you been playing man?
i'm fortunate in that my best friend and i are both heavy into the blues, but drummers and bassists are a real pain to get ahold of.

Blues can be very difficult, but also very easy. Just teach a friend a simple IV V I progression (12 bar blues) and you can do all the dirty work; soloing and such.

I hear you man. I'm 16 and have been playing for a while, but everyone I know like punk-crap or metal. I've been trying for monthes to find anyone who will help me jam some blues.

i hear it man. i don't have anything against punk or metal, but they're both very easy disciplines, and not enough musicians, especially musicians our age, are willing to think outside the box. and i think that blink 182 has done more to destroy creativity in music than any other combination of bands or artists ever has to encourage it.
how fair is it that those juvenile, four-chord pounding idiots make millions of dollars off a set formula, and those of us with legitimate talent, who dare to break outside of the power chord, pentatonic mold get left in the dust of anonymity?

I don't care what they play I just care if it sounds good.
Blink playing four chords or power chords isn't the problem.I don't hear people ripping Jack White for playing on one string! The problem is all their songs sound the same and they sing like Weird Al except Weird Al is a comedian and a far better musician than those tweebs.Weird Al is cool!He makes fun of Mtv crap!

for the record, i'm not a big fan of jack white. it's just that he's not as wildly popular as blink, and musically i think he's more legitimate.

I just get sick of hearing people rip on power chords and songs with 3 chords. It has nothing to do with whether a band sucks or not!
for the record, i'm not a big fan of jack white. it's just that he's not as wildly popular as blink, and musically i think he's more legitimate.exactly!
Playing single notes on the bottom string works if it sounds musical and clearly that's easier than playing power chords!
And as far as 3 chord songs go...WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT THEM?
There are so many classics that only use 3 chords!

i think you're missing the point. i have no problem with easy songs. i have no problem with three chord songs. what i have a problem with is an album or six full of three chord songs that use THE EXACT SAME CHORD PROGRESSION.
i'm not ripping on power chords. i'm a big fan of them. i'm not ripping on the pentatonic scale. i'm a big fan of that too. but when one limits oneself to those elements alone, one tends to stunt oneself as a musician. it also tends to piss other musicians off.

alright, so i got a question for y'all. i'm thinking about getting a telecaster. any thoughts on that? good axe, bad axe, hardware problems, anything?

For my taste, Telecasters were always a little too twangy. But still a good blues sound (Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanen, etc.)

Telecasters sound cool and have a 'character' that's different from any guitar I've ever heard. No really, just play one, you'll hear it.
I'm NOT a country music listener or player, btw. But Tele's sound awesome for anything, IMO.

Since he said "y'all", I'm thinking he wants a country guitar (WARNING: BLATANT STEREOTYPE!). Telecasters are pretty much the standard in guitars, so you can't go wrong with them; especially for country. I saw a guy a few weeks ago at a local gig that was playing country with a Telecaster, and it sounded pretty damn good. But I imagine that it would be suited for anything.

ecthelion, i should beat you for suggesting that. i'm just looking for a different axe than my double hum axe, you know?
i played a tele in the store today. it was very nice. considering i'm not a fan of fender at all, i was pretty impressed.
