Does anybody have any suggestions for some simple metal or punk songs that i could learn? I am not too advanced of a player, i could handle something with power chords and simple pentatonic stuff. thanx.

songs:
1.Die die my darling (cover by metallica, I don' know who originally plays it)
2.battery (also by metallica, you have to be able to play fairly fast)
A good easy starter song is sweet dreams by marilyn manson. I am still having a bit of difficulty with the solo, but the rest is easy.

Just kidding. I don't know much metal tunes, but
Smoke On The Water was one of the first songs I learned. That shouldn't be too difficult.

ANY misfits, sex pistols, or ramones song will make for some easy playing. Also, try Pennywise if you're into some more new-school stuff. For fast metal, try Hit the lights, or Motorbreath, by metallica.

The best part of Bride's "Would You Die for Me, Honey?" is very easy.

Well, almost all old Blink 182 songs use a C-G-A-F progression, or a D-A-B-G progression, or along those lines. Almost all old Blink 182 songs a really simple (Like stuff from Buddha and Chessire Cat). Also Millencolin songs sound really cool but are fairly easy. Most punk songs aren't hard, because its more about having fun then hard guitar playing.
Try Greenday's -When I come around. It is soooooo easy it's a joke. It's all bar cords. Progression is G-D-E. And the course is A-C.
sorry I typed that wrong the cord progression is G-D-E-C and course is A-C and a D for the last note.

Try the rhythm guitar parts for Metallica's "Enter Sandman", "Sad But True", "Of Wolves and Man", "Leper Mesiah".
Alot of people call Nirvana punk, but when I think of punk I think of either old stuff like the Sex Pistols, or new immature stuff by wankers like Blink 182...
Nirvana is easy because it's all power chords and when there's a solo it's always slow and drowned out by chorus or delays and phasers.
the rhythm to "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath is cool, and the fills are easy. I don't know about the solo because I haven't heard the song in awhile and it wasn't a very long solo I don't think.

The solo's not terribly long, but in Iron Man, there's two of them, but the Live Evil version get sorta complex, especially the 2nd solo...yeesh... Anyway, the best place for Sabbath tabs would be: http://www.rdrop.com/~mjames/sabbath/tab/index.html
this guy's REALLY accurate.

Well if you wanna learn some good punk and I really don't know how good you are so I can't say really. All punk is basicly easy, and its a style of playing on its own. Like I'm a punk guitarist and I know I could be much better if I liked metal and stuff cause thats what metal is all guitar solo's pretty much(Metallica) . The kinda punk I like isn't hardcore punk if u ask me thats pretty much metal almost its not music at all. Listen to bands like Green Day, No Use For A Name, NOFX, Offspring and theres some of the best songs will ever hear comming from some of those bands and there pretty easy. Yet they do have some hard songs if you wanna get more advanced. Like 90% of Green Day is completly easy but sure as hell fun to play. Yet they got some hard solo's off the early albums from songs such as (The Judges Daugther, Paper Lanterns) but some easy songs you should start out with are like When I Come Around, Hitchen A Ride, Brain Stew and Warning. For most of there songs you'll need to be good at palm muting. Most of Green Day's verses are muted.
If you wanna learn some other punk songs from other bands learn
Self Esteem by Offspring, pretty much anything by Gob except some of the solo's maybe and some Fenix TX perhaps well have fun with this punk stuff see ya round

The first couple of punk songs I learned were AFI... don't remember one of them, but one of them was Two of a Kind, I think...
If you're looking for REALLY easy punk guitar, go with Tim Armstrong's part in Rancid's Black Lung :D

Goldfinger has some good punk stuff. Their solo/riff things are easy and sound ok. Punk is very easy to play, if you are just begining you will be suprised how fast you can learn punk songs that sound good. Check out weezer too, they have some good stuff.

the punk thing depends on what level you're on; if you're just starting, learn the barre chords and then you can play and BLink song. If you want some fairly hard PUNK, get into some of the old stuff--- "Kick Out the Jams" by MC5 is great--- or get into some newer stuff too:
"The Decline" Nofx --- easy, except it's 20 mintues long and the solo has some spots that are a little tricky
almost any Get Up Kids song
"Let Me In", "We have to figure it out tonight"--- Beatsteaks
and Finch; they're songs aren't hard, but the tone and power behind the notes is amazin'

Hmmm.. can't really think of any metal songs right except Pantera's Walk. Just simple drop-d tuning and power chords mainly but a good song.
now you mentioned pantera - learn This Love - its not too difficult, theres a little solo, that might cause a little problem, if it does, learn the backing rhythm, either way its cool, any blink182 song would make you feel good about yourself i should think.

last caress is by the misfits. and definetly play some ramones for easy songs. Johnny ramone didn't even know how to play anything except barre chords in their early days.

Im surprised no-on has suggested this one......Brainstew by Greenday....I found that one very simple...i may be playing it wrong tho:confused:
greenday songs are simpler if you play them right than if you play them wrong, usually.
Simple punks songs, all of em.
Simple metal songs, Korn.
