I was wondering if you folks do weird things just to experiment like I did? Years ago I took two songs, twinkle twinkle and mary had a little lamb (not by SRV) and worked out arrangements for them in a bunch of different styles i.e. jazz/fusion, blues, heavy metal, reggae, funk, pop, flaminco, classical, blue grass, country etc. I went thru this exercise just to teach myself how to play to the melody not just a style. Am I too weird, or, does anyone else do this type of thing? What kind of off the wall things have you tried?

Uhm,... Try playing Metallica songs in a bluesy style. Pretty cool, especially Master of Puppetz and Enter Sandman. It makes them fun playing again :-)

I am currently writing (arranging?) a heavy-metal version of "Carol of the Bells" to play at a Christmas concert.
