What's the difference? Are there any good videos/books out that deal with them?
Thanks!

Hi! I have liked the Warner Brother's Publishing videos. Some that you might want to consider are:

Acoustic Fingerpicking Pack
Beyond Basics/Alternate Tuning for Fingerstyle Guitar
Beyond Basics/Fingerstyle Mega
Beyond Basics/Fingerstyle Guitar
Beyond Basics/Fingerstyle Solo Guitar

I have not seen these particular videos. I have seen others from this publisher and they have been good. You may be able to find them at your local library, or they are available for purchase from SheetMusicPlus.com. There is a link to them of the front page of CyberFret. Good Luck!:p

Often the terms fingerstyle and fingerpicking are used interchangeably. But technically the term fingerpicking is used to describe a specific type of "fingerstyle" guitar sometimes known as "Travis picking". This style uses a constant alternation of bass notes on the beat, while playing melody notes on the upper strings.

I am not familiar with any specific videos to check out, but one of the author to check out for both video and books is Stephen Grossman. But I will give you a warning with some of his old books that are still in print, they use a very confusing form of tablature. He has 7 lines, and the spaces between the lines are the strings. So all numbers are written in the spaces, not on the lines. So if you can look at the book before hand you can see the format. Or if you can deal with some unorthodox notation, the are still good books.

This is a good introduction to fingerpicking.....but notice the name of the book :)

Here is another good fingerpicking book. This one does not have a CD, so you have to be familiar with reading rhythm for this to be of any use to you. But I highly recommend it

You might try your local library. Where I live they have some guitar videos, and a very big selection of guitar instruction books. Then if you find one that your really like you might buy it for your personal library.

Here are a couple of sites to check out.

Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar Page (http://www.execpc.com/~pgkuchar/)

Fingerstyle Guitar Resource Center (http://olms-music.com/main.htm)

Writing some lessons on fingerstyle guitar is on my big list of things to do :)

Good Luck
