When I try to play the D chord on my guitar, the strings don't sound. I've tried just about everything to get it to sound right, but it doesn't. I can play it fine on my brother's guitar but on mine it doesn't play. Help!!

Is it just the D chord?? that's strange, maybe there's something wrong with your strings or frets. i think tuning your guitar to your brothers is a good idea, i cant think of anything else!
Either your guitar isnt properly tuned or its time to change your strings..

are you being muted on the fret wires? You may want to try raising the action to see if that helps

one thing you may want to look at is your truss rod adjusted correctly? to do this hold down each string (one at a time) at the first fret and hold down the same string at say the 20th or 22nd fret. now look at the gap between the bottom of the string and the top of the fret wire you should have a MINOR gap there, say, 1/64 no more than 1/32 if there is a larger gap than that you have a bowed neck, if the string ride on the top of some fret wires you have a back bow on your neck. The solution to both is take you guitar to a repair man (someone good) and let him do the adjustment to the truss rod.

I hope that helps
