alright, so i got the tabs for "far beyond the sun" off of yngwie's rising force cd, and, well, here's the story...
right in the beginning, the tabs say
|--------|----
|--------|----
|--------|----
|--4-4-4-|--3-
|--------|----
|--------|----
which i found to be half a step too high. unless my ear sucks. which it probably does. but anyway, i found other parts to be also 1/2 too high, but others, even in the intro, on key. am i losing my mind? also, i checked about 7 other tab sites and they were all the tabs by the same transcriber, so they said the same thing.
help! :(

You're correct.
Yngwie tunes to Eb almost always.
The tab is correct, just play it tuned to E and go by intervals with your ear. Or tune to Eb.
Unless maybe the rest of the song is tabbed for E, then that would be just strange or an oversight. Or just plain wrong.
Anyways, er.
The end.

another question...does the very first bar of his "solo" alternate between 5 notes per beat and 4 notes per beat? and how do i figure out the duration of the rest of the notes when they go that fast?

LOL
You're gonna have to be more specific than 'solo', sorry. Yngwie's stuff is like that. Could you possibly give a time? There are several spots in there that I think of as a solo.

The first beat is definitely 5 notes to my ear, and it sounds like the second beat may be as well (it doesn't feel in perfect time). The third beat may also be 5, but I think it is four. It's really tough to read that section after the second beat because it feels like he is moving away from the time.
Your best bet is to figure out the note pattern in the phrase and just try to get the feel of that part. A lot of Yngwie's little diddies seem off-time a bit, but that my be because of weird subdivision.
Sorry I couldln't help more.
