hey u guys, im new. and i just wanted 2 post a question for you guys, since i couldnt find the answer anywhere.

wel i recently bought a guitar, and since i am a violinist playing the guitar would probably be a little easier for me then others who teach themselves, so i decided to try and teach myself. so far its pretty easy, and ive got some sheet music of some songs that i like.

the problem is, im not sure how to read it. its piano sheet music, with the lyrics, but on top is the guitar readings. it is kind of like internet tabs but a little more detailed. it just shows the 6 strings, and where to put ur fingers.

however...can anyone tell me this, where does the chord G5 start at ...fret 3? because one of the chords is written like this...

try to stay with me because it is hard to explain. first, i noticed that some of the chord drawings on the music had two lines on the top..i guess that was the nut of the guitar. i think thats what u call it, the wire that goes write below the head.

i think that meant that the chord was played on the first fret, and second and such.

but some chords only had 1 line on the top. and then rite next to it was a small 3. does that mean i start on the 3rd fret? im really confused so if anyone could help me thatd b great!
my email is pyoo323@yahoo.com PLEASE PLEASE email me, im not sure if i will remeber to come back at check this thread! thanks again, i hope u guys understood that.

It sounds like your on the right track,, I think..Your explaination is a bit lacking. But noramlly when your reading tabs they won't put 1 0r 2 telling you so start at the first or second fret they'll just show a thicker or double line at the top of the tab diagram.

Most will show a little number to the side or top 3,5,6, whatever it is and that normal means to start in that fret. Notice when you see those little number you don't have the double line at the top..

I hope that helps, maybe if you try and explain again in a bit more detail.
