I was just messing around with my guitar and played the following tab.

E-------------------6----------------------------------
B--------------7--5-5-5-----------------------------------
G---5s8s7--7---7--5-5-5-------------------------------------
D---5s8s7--7-x-7--5-5-5-------------------------------------
A---3s6s5--5-x-5--3-3-3-------------------------------------
D------------x-----------------------------------------

I know its very simple, but i am trying to make something simple like this and write a lead riff for overtop of it. That is where my problem comes in.. i've thought of some things but they don't feel right. So i was wondering how any of you would approach writing a riff over this. thanks.

Figure out what key the song is in and use the corresponding pentatonic scales if your looking for a basic rock solo

I made this up myself, and have no clue what key it is in.

Try C Lydian or C Lydian b7 or (better yet) combine the two!

For C Lydian just raise the 4th of the C Major scale by one halfstep!

C Lydian
E-------------------------2-3-5
B--------------------3-5
G-------------2-4-5
D------2-4-5
A-3-5---
E----------

or you can play it this way

C Lydian
E-----------------------------5-7-8
B----------------------5-7-8
G---------------4-5-7
D--------4-5-7
A-3-5-7
E-

C major blues pentatonic would work well, because you get that minor 3rd you include in the slide lick in the beginning, but it's major, which fits in with the chords. If you don't know the C major blues pentatonic, here's one of the shapes you could use

e----------------------3-5
B----------------3-4-5----
G------------2-5----------
D--------2-5--------------
A--3-5-6------------------
E-------------------------

Hope that helps some.
P.S. Use the lydian with this. Mixin pentatonics and scales=good
