Can someone tell me if removing the locking nuts from a guitar harms it's performance. I used to play an Ibanez RG220 and i found the locking nuts really annoying, both while play and when it came time to tune. I did remove them completely at one stage and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. But since i really don't have any idea what i was doing(and still don't since that was the last guitar i played :( ) maybe there was an effect i just didn't notice.

I know of people that take the clamps off their locking nuts. I think it's stupid, because the whole point of a floyd rose tremolo is for the locking nut, and keeping in tune. If you're problem is going between E and drop-D, look into an EVH D-tuna. Or, keep the guitar tuned to one tuning and leave it like that.

But, I don't think there is any problem with unclamping it and leaving it like that.
