I think that I want to switch over to a seven string sometime next year. I have been playing all of this month and most of last. If I do make the switch, then it will be around next October. Can you guys tell me more about the seven string guitar.

I don't like seven strings. They're too.... bulky. The neck is sooo wide, its like playing on a classical guitar. The seven string only gives you an extra lower B string. Of course you can change the tuning, but yeah. I see no point in owning a seven string other than to play a Korn song. I can't remember if steve vai uses one or not, but I heard something about steve vai in a conversation about seven strings. Anyway, I say don't get one. Seven strings are pretty hard to adapt to, and after playing them for a while, it's hard to go back.

I will be playing some korn songs and some Vai songs, and yes, steve vai does use a seven string. I like lower tunings, and I want an extra string. It will be an interesting experience for me. I actuyally WANT somethoing for a change!

Neither do I like 7 strings because the additional strings confuses me a lot! I don't see the point in having it... probably, you will be happier with a 6 or maybe a 12 string because most songs, most tutorial stuff on the web, the tab etc.. will be for those guitars whereas the 7 string is rather exotic.
A friend of mine has a 7 string: personally, I can't play it well and he, on the other side, is confused by my 6 string... so probably, you sacrifice more than you get!

i've never played a seven string, but heres my take on it. If i had one, i'd probably only use the seventh string for solos and power chords (i dont play any korn or vai, personally.) if the seventh string is tuned to B then all the scales (pentatonic, blues etc)would be easy to adapt to it, (you already have an e and b string at the top. play the same frets on the bottom) and power chords would still be the same form, but with a bit more range on the low end. as for open chords and bar chords, i'd just play the top six strings and mute the seventh with my left hand thumb. that way i wouldent need to make a technical adjustment at all.

If you haven't played a seven string, then ya don't know what you're talking about when you say 'easy to adapt to'. }SUre, it's exactly the same position in theory, but there is the stretching of either arm fingers or wrist. The what I find when ever I play my guitar teachers seven string is that it's hard to keep track of yourself, coz I find that I use the low e string as a sort of base. And with the added lower B, it's abit out of it aye.
