I'm one of the many people out there having problems with learning the fretboard notes. I've tried fretboard warrior as I read on some of the posts, and I think i was doing pretty good(about 170 correct and 5 or 6 wrong answers in 10 mins - dont know if thats good or not). but the thing is, when i pick up the guitar, i completely forget about the notes, i can only play in A minor scale(C maj) without problems, cuz i know where all the natural notes are. but i cant 'see' each note as i go through them , therefore i cant alter the notes when i want. i'm getting really really frustrated with this and everytime i hit that same wall i think about putting away the guitar, so, pleeeeeeease , any help is appreciated because i do want to reach my goals as both a musician and a guitarist and this fr%$#*@& thing is holding me back.

One thing I do to remember notes is to play the minor pentatonic scale up and down the neck and say the notes as I play them. Haven't quite got all of them down pat.
One thing that will REALLY help you - start out learning the dotted frets (or slashed or whatever), the frets that are marked. If you learn all of the dotted frets below the 12th fret, that will help you immensely.

Try to learn other scales instead of just notes, like you've already got Minor Pentatonic scales downs, so try the Major or Minor scales, and say the notes aloud as you play them as well.

I find note recognition easier if I picture the octave shape in my mind. As long as you know the low E string you can instantly know what note your on on the D and likewise for the A string and G string etc..
