I am taking suggestions for member level names. Your member level is right under your name when you post. Currently the defaults are this.
less than 30 posts, you are a "junior member"
31 -99 times, you are a "member"
100+ times, you are a "senior member"
I can change these to anything, and can have any number of member levels. So there can be 3 member levels, or 10.

heeheee
i want mine to say "I SUCK"...
lol j/k
but seriously...
the most obvious way to "title" us all would be by what level we are at in our playing...problem with that is...it would be up to our own judgment as to how well we played or not......so...hmmm...
what if you let us choose titles as to how many years we have been playing? is that possible? sure it still leaves a gap for those of us who might practice a half hour a day as compared to the improvements of somebody who has like 4 hours a day free...hmmmmm....

How about some sort of band or artist kinda thing like say
junior member would be a newish band like Blink 182 member
Next up some one who has been around a bit longer say Metalica member
and then next up Beatle or BB King member
do you get the idea

You know, if the community doesn't get too big (and there's nothing at all wrong with a smaller tight knit community) -- maybe you could just keep an active thread on what people want. That may not be possible, unless you are allowed to write modifications to this board software. What I'm talking about though is like --
cyberfret
The Teacher
on your posts.. or -- in line with the thread:
jaytee
I SUCK
hehe, if that's not worth the effort or you don't have the code to write any modifications.. maybe just something simple
Beginner 1->30
Player 30->99
Virtuoso 100+
and for the admin --> Segovia! =)
that or just pick a theme, and put up a poll *shrug*

cyberfret, I went ahead and did some legwork for you.. according to the manual for vBulletin you can do it either way, you can even set it so we can set our own custom titles.
It allows a user to specify their own title which appears under their username with each post. You can set limits as to whether they need to attain a certain number of posts and/or be registered for a certain period of time before using this, or you can disable it for all users. You can always assign a custom title to a user by going to Users > Find > enter their username > click submit > click [edit] next to the user's name > and put in the box for Title.
and for doing it one user at a time:
If you mean for just one specific person, go to Users > Find > enter the user's name, click submit > click [edit] next to the user's name > and enter what you want for Title. If you mean for everyone in a group, go to User Groups & Permissions > Modify > click [edit] next to the group's name and enter a title for them.
I hope this helps.

I think that mjamer's idea is good, let us set our own titles, but if not, here's my idea. It sort of goes with the theme of the forum, but it is a little corny. best i could think up on short notice. :)
0 - 20 posts = "1st String"
21 - 30 posts = "2nd String"
31 - 40 posts = "3rd String"
41 - 50 posts = "4th String"
51 - 60 posts = "5th String"
61 - 80 posts = "6th String"
81 - 90 posts = "3rd Fret"
91 - 100 posts = "2nd Fret"
101+ posts = "1st Fret"
or dice it up any way you want. I figured that i might as well add my input, no matter what you decide on. :D

you could name levels after actual guitar players.

I think what you've got now works fine ('cept I'd like to be a senior member now!!!)

i like the idea to name the members based on real guitar players like a newer member could be monkey from korn cause korn is a newer band. a middle level member could be slash from gnr cause they are an older band. and if you are an older member you could be jimmy page etc. thats just my suggestion. :)

Well, I sort of like levels. It's fun as long as people don't think that one level makes them better than a "lower" level... Some people have been registered on the forum longer, but just don't post as much...
I can't really think of anything right now (I'm brain-dead), but I sort of like that suggestion that Zero made about the frets and strings thing...

But oh my... does THIS bring back recent memories!!!!
I remember a few months ago when weblord Michael asked us exactly the same thing on Journey's site... Michael really got into this "King Arthur" theme, I think. :D All but two of the levels have medievel names like "Jester, Squire, Knight..." (However, the last two are "Honorary Roadie" and "Honorary Band Member") ... During the time I was a moderator, I had the fixed title of "Magistrate." Right now, I'm Honorary Band Member with 3387 posts (which really just tells me I need a life :D ).

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I like the fret idea the best. 1st fret, 2nd fret.....up to 24th fret. This got put on the low priority section of my huge to do list for the site, but I will try and implement that soon.

Yeah, the fret idea sounds good. The problem with artists names is that everyone likes different artist. If Van Halen was a level and Slash isnt a level tons of people would want it changed. Then there would also be the argument of who is a better player.

This is awesome. I wonder who will get to 24th fret first, after cyberfret and ESP_viper that is.

Oh my... :D
Now, if I can actually think up enough guitar stuff to reach the kind of level I have over at the other site (now at 3423 as of 12 minutes ago) ... too bad they aren't transferable :D :D :D ...
Give me about another week, when my work crunch is over. I DO have a few guitar questions to ask (although not 3000+ of them).

My title won't be 24th fret since i'm designated 'gear moderator' But even if I could be, that would litterally be years to get up to 5k posts!
