I'm sorry, but what is fusion? I'm guessing a type of style, but what are some examples?

I believe he's talking about jazz fusion, which is the fusion of jazz with other styles of music like rock, hip/hip, techno, etc.
Miles Davis and John Coltrane were some of the pioneers of jazz fusion, check out Coltrane's 'Interstellar Space' album. Medeski Martin and Wood are my favourite jazz fusion trio.
As for lessons, sorry, can't help you. You might wanna learn regular jazz first.

tried learning regular jazz, and cried (it made me quit guitar for a year and a half)...so boring. hahaha
I'm talking about artists such as Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Darryl Gabel, Shawn Lane (RIP). these guys are awesome..download some of there stuff Sewerhobo. You'll have difficulty finding darryl gabel's stuff, so just go to www.chopsfromhell.com and take a look at him in the guest columnists.
buy "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis. learn to play it, and you're sorted.
You should check out Dillinger Escape Plan, they are an excellent jazz fusion group.

Hey there!
First of all, I understand about not wanting to learn "jazz" itself, first, and wanting to dive headfirst into fusion, but...
I would encourage you to really be patient and take the time to get the jazz language together, while you are working on your fusion studies...
Without the foundation of the jazz language, fusion would not even exist....
Fusion CAN mean fusing ANY two styles together, but I think most would agree the it's foundation is in Jazz and rock....just as some of jazz's foundation is in the blues, etc...
It just so happens that I am on Derryl Gabel's label, and just switched label's from Holdsworth's label...as well as lining up a deal to do a CD-ROM with Chops From Hell...so we have common interests....I'm also a big fan of Shawn and Frank...
My recommendations are to check out:
Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech
Wayne Krantz
John Scofield
John McLaughlin
Scott Lerner, who I just helped get a deal on Progressive Arts Music ( www.scottlernermusic.com )
Mike Brecker (a sax player, but VERY inspiring for a guitarist)
As far as fusion related sites:
http://www.proGGnosis.com/Main.asp
http://www.guitarmania.ca/
http://AudiophileImports.com/
Jazz studies sites:
http://www.jazzbooks.com/
I don't know about fusion lesson sites, but I can imagine, if you did a search on the Net, you'd come up with something....
Hope this has helped!
Peace,
Scott Jones

I like a jazz-rock-funk fusion but more towards the heavier rock side of things.
This stuff will really perk up your ears.
I love instrumental rock and fusion and think it's the ultimate goal as a player.
Unfortunately I've got a long ways to go before I can play the guitar with that kind of authority.
I think country pickers or bluegrass also fits in there somewhere.
I love hearing many different instruments played well.
This is what inspires me to wanna learn.
A piano solo does just as much for me as any guitar solo.
Music is such a beautiful thing when musicians care about it
enough to put SOOO much into it.
