Ive been playing for over half a year now, and I want to move into improvisation of solos and such. I am self taught and was wondering what do I need to learn first?
(I was thinking scales maybe?)

I'd learn the Pentatonic scales first, then move on to the major scale/modes etc.
Of course you need to learn what scales/modes are appropriate to play over what chords. Jamey Ambersold has a book called 'How to play jazz and improvise' that's good. It's jazz, but the concepts can be transfered to any other style, and there's another good book called 'Scales Over Chords' that comes with a nifty jam cd.
Or, if you dont want to spend money, check the Improvisation section on this site, or look around Wholenote.com or the rest of the internet, there's loads of good crap out there.

When you learn all fo your scales and such make it interesting by learning to change keys in a solo. IT will make th whole song a bit less boring and can open a little more creativity to the song.
