im thinkin about changin the pickups on my epiphone explorer to
EMG-81 but i found out that they are active pickups. i know that they use a battery but what kind of battery and how long do they last and are they better than passive pickups? also does anyone have any opinions about the emg 81 pickups. Is it good for playin metallica, creed , and incubus type of music?thanks 4 the help

well seeing as I'm here, I'll reply here.
Yep EMG 81's are good for playing metallica. EMG's are good in some ways, bad in others. Personal preference as always. Umm the battery is nine volt, I have heard it either to either last from 6 months to year if my memory serves me. Or maybe it was 3-6 months, can't remember

6 months is a good thumb rule... however, it's important to unplug the guitar if you don't play it or else the circuit will be closed and it will drain from the battery even if you do not play!!

EMGs are especially good for playing with heavy distortion..
