Back when I started to play (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) I didn't have the cash for effects, after a while I started buying effects ended up with bunches of the blasted little things, then one day (after a frustating gig the night before) I stopped using them. For years now I have used as my rig a guitar, amp, and one box (overdrive/compression that I only use when I play lead). I was wondering if any of this new stuff that I'm seeing in the stores is reliable and roadworthy. I'm thinking about getting a one gizmo does it all... any suggestions. I'm thinking the top price point that I could go is prolly $1500

Well, when I started playing, multi-effects were what my parents were willing to buy me, so I got the good old Zoom 505. I was in 5th grade at the time, so I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. But once I started understanding tone and dynamics the 505 really turned me off. It on its own has turned me off to those types. I hated Line 6 and Digitech and all those multi-effect guys. I won't buy another zoom pedal! But I tried the POD to criticise it... I now own one. They are very convincing. Line 6 does a very good job with multi-effects. They aren't an 'all in one' but they are great sounding for 250 bucks. I'd say get a wah pedal, and a few of these four button Line 6 stomp boxes, you will be suprised! The line 6 DM4 is a distortion pedal, and they have filter modelers an a bunch more. I don't recommend using a zoom for distortion, its not dynamic. But check out Line 6 products.
