Inthe master of puppets intro, the: 00700605040302 bit, in all the tabs I have read (official too) it says as above, but my friend's guitar teacher has been to every Metallica concert in England ever and says they play power chords (same root note as above). I watched cunning stunts and it looks like James is putting more effort into it than just single notes when he plays. What should I play?

play what ever you want to play, you don't have to play it exactly the same. But it isn't power chords in that specific part you were saying.

Those would be single notes. I just popped in my Cunning Stunts dvd and it is indeed single notes. Unless he means the short part in that riff where they hold out the notes... those are power chords, but where they do the open E strumming it is all single notes. It's hard to describe...

I know which bit you mean with power chords, but my mates teacher is willing to bet any one of you $infinate that it is power chords live in the bit that is usually single notes

Well being at every metallica show ever doesn't mean you get a good view of their fingers... You will have to be in some up close and personal seats to get that kind of view. A movie on the other hand, the cameras are placed for good views and they are able to zoom in. I have S&M and Cunning Stunts, S&M doesn't have the best shots of their hands during the intro of puppetz, but from what I see in that it looks like single notes. From cunning stunts there is a pretty good view of their hands in the intro, it is for sure single notes. I saw godsmack and deftones live this summer, that doesn't make me an authority on how they play. ;)

please dont say that comment was addressed to me!!!!!! please!!!!! coz I am a metallica fanatic, hehe, I've been 'studying' their style now for 4 years as they were what inspired me to play guitar

oh neway, it says in the MOP tab book that it is all single notes, on cunning stunts they play single notes... so dude, I'll bet your mates guitar teacher =]

btw, have you ever listened to it live? You can hear that it aint single notes because......
the bass plays the same notes as the guitar, and there is only one guitar, sooo that note is emphasised. =]
