:confused:

I know there is a section about drop D tuning, but there is a song I want to learn that says to tune from EADGBE to DADDAD. Someone said that a chromatic tuner is the easiest way. How does that differ from a standard tuner, and is there an easier way to tune my acoustic guitar to this sequence. Help!!!

You could use relative tuning.

So the 6th string sound an octave lower than the 4th string.
The 3rd should sound the same as the 4th.
The 2nd should be an octave higher than the 5th.
The 1st should be an octave higher than th 4th.

Srings Top to bottom, 1st string to 6th string

e= down 1 Tone(2 frets)
B= down 1 Tone(2 frets)
G=down 4 Tones(5 frets)
D=same as standard tuning
A=same as standard tuning
E=down 1Tone(2 frets)

The best way is to learn the names of the notes on all strings, so you can tell that, for instance, if you tune the B string down 1 tone it should sound the same as the 7th fret on the D string.

I have trouble with this even using a Chromatic Tuner. Not sure if it's got to do with a floyd rose or not but i find that if i work down the strings tuning each to the new note i want it in by the time i get to the bottom the top is way off what i'm after, even tho it was exactly on the note when i started. Why does that happen??

GRRRR, Well how can i tune that guitar down? I was always trying to tune low enough to play some Korn songs for a bit of fun but i could never even get it to stay 1/2 a step down. It was standard tuning or nothing.

well the thing to remember is the tension on the springs of the tremolo was just made less, soo I guess, maybe retuning a couple of times could help. But a floyd rose isn't really made for playing in different tunings all the time.

Hmm, ok thanks.
I guess that's why my guitar teacher told me that i had perhaps bought "too much" guitar for my very first guitar. I really didn't know enough about guitars to be fooling around with things like a floyd rose. It makes it hard to learn how to play if you have to run to a shop or your techer to fix up the tremolo every time you try to do something easy like tune the damn thing :(. Oh well, my squire doesn't have that problem so maybe i'll do better this time :)

hey dude, what I suggest, if you still have your guitar with the floyd rose, is keep your floyd rose tuned to standard tuning, and use your squire for different tuning. Oh and I suggest getting those seymore duncan single coil shaped humbuckers. I've heard that they really increase tone and just make everything sound better. This guy I know has 2 strats, one with the duncan single coil shaped humbucker (can't remember the product name) and the strat with the duncan totally rips honestly!!!! It's soo nice, way better tahn his other strat. Oh and he also locked down the tremolos with some more springs.
